Is your agency benefiting from transparency or just ‘checking the box’?
If your agency is only doing the bare minimum required for OMB submission, you're missing an opportunity to improve internal operations, public service provision, and mission fulfillment. Transparency can be more than just an accountability mechanism -- but to do so, it must be grounded in the agency's mission and tailored to its work environment.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has developed their Open Government plan with this in mind and invites you to explore the internal benefits of taking ownership of transparency. They're excited to share their experiences, and learn from yours.
A Focus Forum to Develop a Guide to Owning Transparency
The purpose of this event is to stimulate and document new thinking in the area of transparency. All discussions will help build an inter-agency Guide to Owning Transparency that will be made available for use by all agencies.

What is a Focus Forum?
A Focus Forum is an inter-agency collaborative event hosted by an agency for the purpose of innovating new thinking and capturing solutions on a specific topic. This deeper focus is the next stage in the evolution of the popular OpenGov Community Summits that were co-hosted by the DOT, USDA, NASA, Treasury, EPA, and GSA throughout 2010. You can learn more on the Open Forum Foundation website. If you are interested in hosting one at your agency, please contact Wayne Burke.
The event will take place at the Office of Personnel Management, 1900 E Street NW, Washington, DC 20240. The nearest Metro Station is Foggy Bottom (Blue/Orange Lines); walk 6 blocks southeast. The main entrance is on the north side of the building.
